This is an exquisite original production cel from the Walt Disney Studios feature film, Pinocchio (1940). This cel features a stunning and emotional image of Pinocchio sitting solemnly with Jiminy Cricket empathetically sitting upon his knee. The cel was created by the studio and used during the prodution of the film, representing a frame of animation which was photographed and appearing in the film. This particular piece was originally prepared for sale by the Courvoisier Galleries, likely in the 1950s, in an attempt to promote the artwork created by Disney Studios as fine art. The piece exhibits tradtional Courvoisier Galleries details such as the cel being trimmed to image and applied to the woodgrain background with a hint of airbrushing appearing on the background to register the position of the characters. This cel is a tremendous example of the visual imagery created in the film and is a very large cel with the overall framed dimensions measuring 24.25" x 21.75" with the mat opening measuring 14" x 12" and the character image measuring about 10" x 6.5". The cel is in good condition for its age with some minor discoloration in the paint from being adhered to the background, common with Courvoisier setups.
